From the Desk of your Pastor, residing at present in a room at Lourdes Hospital, Ernakulam, to his beloved members of Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Fort Cochin,
Where shall I start, and what shall I start ! My mind is for the moment blank. To put everything that happened from the 19th of November, the Saturday, to this moment in a nutshell is to remind myself and to quote the Psalm 118 :19-20: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness. I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord, and this gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter. I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation”, which to me was a personal and a unique experience to walk with Lord to the Door of Death, but remain there un-admitted.
I am to believe today that there are dreams to be materialized for the greater glory of God [Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam]
We have already started on the 27th of November 2011the beginning of the New Liturgical Year 2011-2012, the First Sunday of Advent to prepare for the birth of the baby Jesus. Let us unselfishly accept the blessings and graces showered on all of us during this Advent Season, reminding us what has been said by Prophet Isaiah in 64:8 and 9 “Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Do not be angry beyond measure, O Lord; do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look upon us, we pray, for we are all your people.“
Wishing all of you the blessings and graces of God on the Solemnity of the great Portuguese Missionary, St Francis Xavier [03.12.2011], on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary [08.12.2011], on the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord [CHRISTMAS] [25.12.2011], and of the forth-coming New Year 2012.
I also take this opportunity to wish everything best to Rev. Fr Antony Pulickal, the Interim Parish Priest-in-Charge and the Rector-in-Charge of the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, officially appointed by His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kariyil, the Bishop of Cochin, on the 22nd of November 2011, and to request my parishioners to give him sincere cooperation and support during this interim period. I also extend my heart-felt welcome to Rev. Fr Joshy Alesseril, a newly ordained priest, as the second assist. parish priest in the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, appointed by His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kariyil, the Bishop of Cochin, on the 27th of November 2011.
May I also humbly instruct my beloved parishioners that the Liturgical Season of Advent has a two-fold character, for it is a time of preparation for the solemnities of Christmas, in which the first coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by remembrance of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s second coming at the end of time. For these two reasons, advent is a period of devout and expectant delight.
May God Almighty bless us all.
Your Parish Priest and Rector
